Relevance of Shakespeare to 21st century August 7, 2008

Filed under: SSO4- Shakespeare — Ramesh Lakshman @ 11:38 pm

I believe that Shakespeare is irrelevant to the 21st century because what am I going to do by knowing about him. An example is that Harry Potter is a famous book but no is going to research on J.K Rowling as a project.

Shakespeare uses the old English accent in his play. Not even the British people in the 21st century would understand the old English accent. I think that Shakespeare shouldn’t be a syllabus at school but if anyone is interested to research about him then they can research about him themselves.

Elizabethan Society August 7, 2008

Filed under: SSO4- Shakespeare — Ramesh Lakshman @ 10:42 am

The Elizabethan society is the period of time when Queen Elizabeth the first was ruling England (1558- 1603). This was considered to be the golden age in the English history because it was the time of William Shakespeare’s stories and plays.

The Elizabethan society was known because of the contrasts with the periods before and after. It was the time of peace between the English Reformation and the battle between the Catholics and the Protestants and the battle between the monarchy and the parliament.
